Breathe. Just taking a moment to write this review with a clear conscience and eyes. I have to say eyes because they were full of tears...This is by far the most involved, down to earth story I have read in some time. This book had me pacing myself to take the hits head-on. I only put this down long enough to dry my eyes and steady my heart. I felt connected to everyone in here in some way. I had...have ...real feelings for the characters..because this story has many things that I could relate to..And I am sure you could, too. Falling in love with the wrong person... In a relationship that should not have been... Being torn apart from the inside... Finding hope from the least likeliest place.. Rebuilding your heart when you thought you never could...ALL of this and more is within the pages of this book. And as much as it twisted and turned me inside out more than twice,I still LOVE this. This is about self discovery, about redemption, and about love, loss, and the ability to overcome the hardships of life...This will change you...You may want to stop for a bit..I did but I still pressed on...And I stopped to catch my breath and had a few ugly cries...This is THAT deep. But I still suggest you read this. It may change how you love others in such a way where you find you can love even more than you ever thought. And yes, I'm tearing up writing this. Thanks,Christine, for writing this book!

Three Days of Rain Christine Hughes 9781937329822 Books Reviews

I have never, ever...read a book like this...and that not a bad thing! Pretty sure my heart literally bled. I went in not knowing anything about this book and I'm glad because I wasn't sure ever the direction the book was going. It wasn't predictable at all. That said this is not an easy read and it will stick with me forever!
Without giving away many details, I cannot really decide how to review this book. What I want to say is that it is heartrendingly beautiful, full of despair and full of hope. I was crushed and at the same time left feeling that things would get better. My recommendation is to have something to do when you finish Three Days of Rain (and maybe have a big box of tissues available).

In some ways, I'm really hating on Christine Hughes at this point. She hit quite a few of my buttons but at the same time made me really think about my life as it is now... deep reflection is never a comfortable thing. Despite this, I highly recommend Three Days of Rain to anyone.
Christine Hughes is an amazing writer! I do not normally read this sort of book, although I have read a few Nicholas Sparks novels, and that's what Three Days of Rain reminds me of.

While the writing was deeply engaging, the subject matter is very dark, and depressing. It is, in fact, the only reason I couldn't give the book a higher rating. Just too many feels for me...

If you don't mind getting all up in your feelings and dealing with the (well written) hard realities of love and loss then you are going to want to grab some chocolate, tissues, maybe a bottle of wine, and sit down to read this one!
Ok this is so hard to write without giving anything away. This book is amazing. I will admit that I had to stop reading partway through because it was just too much.....with an amazing storyline and characters that I just completely fell in love with except one.....one character I hated. I do have to say one thing so if you don't want to know anything about this book stop reading now..............................................................Christine Hughes you completely ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. Man I have not been epically wrecked by a book in like forever. The best heartbreaking story I have read in a very long time. Five stars is definitely not enough for this book.
So not what I was expecting, and a part of me is pissed off, but the other part of me has to say very well done. I cried my a$$ off, which in my opinion means the book delivered on an emotional level that always rate high with me. Even if it also pisses me off!

What to say without giving away too much? Meet Jake. An emotionally closed off twenty eight year old male living in a small town in South Carolina. He's basically a good guy, with a bad temper...when riled. After his volatile relationship with Maddie leaves him emotionally crippled, two years after she left and he still has not come to terms with his past and moved on. Well intentioned family and friends have tried to talk to him about living his life, but Jake just can't seem to let the past go. I'll admit I had a hard time understanding Jake at this point. We don't learn until later exactly why Jake is struggling, so relating was kind of tough. Enter Lily. I liked Lily a lot and her free spirited, kind, but slightly pushy attitude was exactly what he needed. Lily was in town spending the summer visiting her uncle. After a chance encounter with Jake, she senses he is broken and only wants to help him. Lily decides to befriend Jake, in the hopes to do what others have failed to....bring Jake back to the land of the living...not just existing day to day. What I found amazing is that Jake really was not a bad person...yes he did have a knack for getting into fights when he was younger, and he did have a fierce temper, but overall a decent guy that just could not catch a break. After his disastrous relationship with Maddie, and all of the efforts he made to finally get past the crap she put him through, tragedy strikes again. Maddie returns and all hell just breaks lose. I honestly did not think he would survive it, and a part of me really wanted to continue to dislike Maddie, but at the end, Jake came out a better man. Not completely where I wanted him to be, but no longer broken.

Lily wasn't perfect, but she had good intentions..even when she wasn't sure about what she wanted in life, including settling down. Maddie was impossibly selfish, and somewhat cruel. I loved to hate her for most of the book, then get thrown a curve at the end that somewhat changes that. Perhaps I didn't like her, but at least I understood her better and she did manage to soften my feelings toward her. Jake was by far my favorite character. After getting past his blindness to Maddie's faults that is. He had a great support group behind him, but spent a good amount of time not appreciating them. His dad, brother, even Maddie's dad were on his side, but it took a while for him to come full circle, post-Maddie desertion, to realize it.

This was definitely a good read, but if you're like me and you love your happily ever after...this doesn't quite fit that bill, so keep that in mind. Me? I would love to see Jake get that...perhaps in a book 2? ;)
