Noah is a returned soldier, wounded both in body, mind and soul. He does not want to return to his father's major plumbing business. Instead he elects to set out on a journey to find Ceejay and the baby his stepbrother fathered. He finds Perfect a quiet wonderful place for healing and dealing for the PTSD he suffers from. He soon falls in love with his little niece and she thinks he is rather special too. They spend time together, and you just know Noah would make a great father. He strikes up a friendship with Ceejay's cousin, Ted and as the story progresses they form an alliance that is going to take them into a new future.Ceejay has struggled pretty much all her life, but she is tough and she has reached important goals. She has been brought up by her Aunt Jenny after her mother just dropped her there, then Matt her boyfriend on learning she was pregnant walked out. With the help of her Aunt she has made a life for herself but she is not quite ready to accept on trust anyone, let alone Noah and later his family when they arrive.
I enjoyed the developing relationship between Ceejay and Noah, other family relationships and the way there were enough twists and turns in the plot to keep me engaged. The values of family, love, trust and satisfying work shone through. A very pleasant read.

Far from Perfect has everything. The the story sucks you in from page 1, and the plot twists keep you reading. The hero and heroine (CeeJay and Noah) both have tortured pasts and are created so vividly that you really care about them and are dying to have them work things out. The secondary characters--Noah and CeeJay's families and other townspeople--are real people, interesting, occasionally annoying, and mostly endearing once you get to know them. I grew up in a small Midwestern town, and this book truly captures the spirit of small town living, including the pros and cons of living where everybody knows your name (and most everything else about you!). The book also educated me on what veterans who suffer from PTSD experience day-to-day. It's no longer just an abstract disease to me.
Far from Perfect is wonderfully written, full of emotion, and an altogether terrific read. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer since I hated to have it end! I'm definitely looking forward to Book 2 in the Perfect, Indiana series.
Wonderful story. The entire series is superb (with a fourth book due out next year). I was attracted to the books initially because they are about former veterans recovering from the trauma of their military service. What hooked me was the poignant and hopeful storytelling as the main characters (veterans and non-veterans) find refuge, healing and love in the small Indiana community of Perfect. These stories from the heartland couldn't be more "perfect".
The plot is good, but I am sorry I couldn't finish the book. I stopped when Ceejay met her late boyfriend's parents. I couldn't stand her rudeness. Call me old fashion but I like a more well mannered heroine who takes care not to direct her anger and bitterness at well meaning people. The line that says, "She knew that intellectually, but emotionally...", which is repeated a few times in the books only confirms her irrationality. I can't like this in a heroine.
This book was great! I loved the real contemporary real life characters dealing with real situations. I'm always looking for books to read that have a new interesting storyline ,this one dealt with PTSD and abandoment. This story deals with a H and a h both dealing with their own personal problems and agendas. Add to this two interesting and supportive families and you've got a great romance in a small town. Great romance but no explicit sex. I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much that I've read the second and am now reading the third book in the perfect series.
Loved this book. The characters were fantastic. Ceejay was raising her daughter on her own when Noah showed up. It was Noah' s brother who'd taken all of Ceejay' s money and left her destitite and pregnant. However, Noah knew nothing about Ceejay. He was too busy fighting a war and losing his leg. Then his brother is killed in an accident and while helping his mom by going through his brother's things, he discovers his brother had a child he never mentioned and a woman he'd treated unfairly and left behind. So Noah travels to Indiana to meet them. This attraction is apparent to everyone, but Ceejay had been burned before and by Noah' s brother. Then Noah' s family shows up to complicate things, her aunt becomes ill and all of her dreams are put on hold. Lots of twists and turns, great romance, a bevy of interesting characters made for a great read. Definitely recommend.
I've been kind of off romance novels lately. I got this one because it was set in Indiana, and I'm a proud Hoosier. Granted, I'm from Northeast Indiana and this is set in Southwest Indiana and as any Hoosier knows, those are pretty much two separate states in all but name and government. Nevertheless this felt like Indiana to me. After countless books set in the South it was nice to see a writer finally catch on to the comforting coziness of Indiana life.
Still, though, this has the downfall of most romances--the aspect that turned me off the genre--in that the conflict in the story all centers around people failing to communicate. If everyone would just say what was on their mind we wouldn't have to put up with all the slamming doors, frustrated tears and longing glances. I guess if you're into that kind of thing this would be a five-star book. The setting was great, the escapist tropes were excellent, the characters were interesting and compelling. But man. Say what you mean and mean what you say. All this faffing about gets old after awhile.
seemed like a teenage romance. each got upset at something the other said or a look and talk would stop until one would somehow see no harm was meant. then the cycle repeated itself until it became somewhat tedious to continue reading. i did somehow finish the book.
